It was 6 years ago... Turkey had the chance to host Eurobasket 2001. Despite the lack of interest to basketball in Turkey, everyone was so excited. The players were the best generation of Turkish basketball. Hidayet Turkoglu, Mehmet Okur, Mirsad Turkcan, Ibrahim Kutluay, Kerem Tunceri, Huseyin Besok, Harun Erdenay... Before the competition a band called Athena made a song for the team called "12 Giant Men". The team got the 2nd place in the competition by the help of fans. After that, everything went wrong. World cup 2002 Indianapolis, 2003 Eurobasket Sweden, 2005 Eurobasket Serbia... All of them were such nightmares. But the last year in Japan, without the "star players" such as Mehmet Okur and Hidayet Turkoglu, Turkish team played very well, made the country cry with honour in fron of tvs. They played with their hearts. Got the 6th degree. It caused great hopes for Eurobasket 2007 in Spain. But... No. Once again the team failed. Couldnt get through the Quarter Finals. Won 1, Lost 5. Terrible! The players are not the guilty ones. The problem is the coach, Bogdan Tanjevic. He showed us how a coach can blew the team up with player selections and coaching during the game.
